Dear Emmaus Families,

Welcome to Children’s Ministry at Emmaus-pandemic style!  While our programming might look a little different at the start of the 2020 school year than years past, please know that I am committed to encouraging you and your family in your faith walk.  My hope is that you feel the presence of God and the love of your church family despite our distance.

This year, each registered family will be given the book, Exploring the Bible Together: A 52-Week Family Worship Plan as a guide to help them walk through Bible stories and ponder what it is that God is teaching us.  One family each week will be asked to record a short video (less than one minute) telling all the other families what they noticed about that week’s expedition.  The hope is that reading the same stories and seeing one family each week via video will help us feel more connected.

Milestone lessons (for kindergarten-5th grade) start on September 20, and will be a mix of video lessons, Zoom conversations, and reflection.  Parents are encouraged to participate in Milestones with their kids.  If you are a family of a preschool student, there are some activities for you to do together as your schedule allows, prior to our start of using Exploring the Bible Together on October 11th.

There is no Wednesday night programming for the foreseeable future.  Ideas for “Family Nights In” and service projects from home will be sent out sporadically with the intention of giving you options of things to do as a family without overwhelming you with online meetings or videos.

Other craft/activity ideas will be posted on our private Emmaus Children’s Ministry Facebook page throughout the year, so be sure to check that out.  Registration (link is at Emmauschurch.org) is necessary to be given materials for the year as well as to remain informed about any changes in programming.

Emmaus has always emphasized that families be a primary support for building their children’s faith.  While we may need to take a step back from in-person programming at church for the time being, faith-building support for our kids at home can positively impact their relationship with our Lord and Savior.  I hope you join us in the journey this year!

Joyfully,

Kari Engle
