The Wait is Over!
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
In some of our Bibles, the word “wait” in this verse reads instead as “hope.” We’ve all done a lot of waiting and hoping over the last year and a half. My waiting came in various forms: hopeful prayer and excitement, lots of nervous energy (just ask my husband), and even tearful impatience (yes, my husband can speak to that, too). Some hand written notes of support from folks in our body eased the call committee’s waiting. After sharing these words of encouragement with the call committee, I would tuck them into the front pocket of my white search committee binder. I’d peek at them from time to time – usually during those moments of tearful impatience.
The “shalls” in this verse from Isaiah also eased my waiting. What a wonderful gift to know that our waiting and hoping SHALL bear fruit! How exciting to be armed with this renewed strength as we prepare for this new beginning together with Senior Pastor Abe Johnson. No matter what you are waiting and hoping for, be encouraged: the Bible says that “the Lord shall renew [your] strength.” Not might renew. Shall.
Last week, I moved my trusty search committee binder from the prominent spot it occupied for the last 13 months to an out-of-the-way shelf upstairs. The waiting for a Senior Pastor is over. Praise the Lord!
Renewed strength, friends. I’m so excited to see what God will do with our collective renewed strength! Gratefully yours, Kim Decker, Retired Call Committee Chair
